2015 Summer Camp in Taiwan

U Music students participated in a 10-day summer camp at U-Theatre in Taiwan this summer. Everyone enjoyed this exciting trip. Stay tuned for more information.

2012 China Tour

The summer tour in China went by in a whirlwind of activity. The California Percussion Ensemble performed first in Xi-an and Shanghai, collaborating with students from the Xi-an Conservatory and the Shanghai School. The final stop was Beijing, where they performed so well in a world-famous Forbidden City Concert Hall that little children ran up to the stage afterwards and asked for their autographs.
Between concerts and rehearsals, they visited the Terra Cotta warriors, climbed the Great Wall, and ate lots of ice cream. Although they were only in China for two weeks, they truly experienced Chinese culture, from the busyness of the crowded streets to the beauty of China’s magnificent architecture. They also learned how every percussionist is part of one global family.
After the tour, they held a fundraising concert at San Jose State University, playing the China Tour program for family and friends.

2010 Taiwan Tour

On the California Percussion Ensemble’s first international trip, students toured the beautiful country of Taiwan, visiting cities such as Tamsui, Kaohsiung, and Taipei. Not only did they explore vastly different regions of Taiwan, witnessing the contrast between rich and poor areas, but they also performed in a variety of venues, from a fancy shopping mall to the auditorium of a farming school, where a swarm of vicious mosquitoes attacked CPE members as they performed.
Their last performance was a fundraising concert in Taipei for victims of an earthquake. The concert was so epic that the rain began to pour as CPE played “Stormbreak” by Jim Casella. By the time they finished the concert with Mr. Lemmon’s arrangement of “Taiwan Medley,” the sun had set on everyone at the Huashan 1914 Creative Park.
Upon their return to America, CPE played the Taiwan Tour program at San Jose State University for a fundraising concert.
